Grateful
Dead:Live from Saratoga,
28 June 1988
From
Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga, N.Y. Broadcast live on FM Radio
across the greater New York area, this show was the fourth trip for the
Grateful Dead to this upstate oasis, and the first since the band set
the record for the largest crowd ever at the venue. 1988 was a weird year
for the Dead, lots of shows were performed but the euphoria of having
Jerry Garcia back and healthy was wearing off, and we now know that Brent
Mydland was only 18 months away from departing.
But on
this particular night the band were not just on a communal wavelength,
but positively on fire as well. This show turned out to be the last the
Dead would ever play at SPAC. Rowdy crowd behavior including the scaling
and pulling down of fences saw to this, but they went out on a high as
this performance is fondly remembered by those who attended and can now,
thanks to this release a quarter century on, be re-lived by those lucky
ones, and enjoyed in retrospect by the rest of us.
Fine
late 80s Dead.

This is a far better quality sound than the Worcester radio broadcast.
A good example of the Dead live in 88. At the price, a bargain for any
Deadhead. (amazon.com reviewer)
