The Dead's first album on their independent label is full of strong tunes, including "Mississippi Half-Step" (with Vassar Clements on fiddle), "Here Comes Sunshine," "Eyes of the World," "Stella Blue" and Weir's "Weather Report Suite" (augmented by horns). A worthy follow-up to American Beauty and still one of the best Dead studio records, even though all of the songs sounded much more developed live.
